Located on Bowery, the TAO Group’s Vandal celebrates the art, architecture, and food of global street culture, as well as the history of the restaurant’s Lower East Side location. Rockwell Group organized the restaurant’s two levels into a series of intricately coordinated maze-like spaces that create a sense of discovery at every turn.

Each room balances the interplay of lush and gritty moments found in urban street life. Hush, the renowned British street artist, curated Vandal’s art program, commissioning seven internationally-recognized artists to create site-specific installations inside and outside the restaurant.

The restaurant’s entry is a surprising flower shop called Ovando, with dark, minimalist walls and furnishings.
Guests enter Vandal through a dark, minimalist flower shop—a collaboration between Rockwell Group and boutique floral designer Ovando.

Follow us down the rabbit hole for something unexpected.

San Francisco-based artist Apex tagged Vandal’s main entrance on Bowery, signaling the homage to street art that lies ahead; which includes an 11-foot-tall break-dancing bunny, finished in a shade of purple lacquer inspired by the discontinued (but much-coveted) Krylon spray paint color Icy Grape. Apex layered seductive cobalt blue walls with New York-inspired lyrics to draw guests down a staircase that leads to the cellar lounge and bar.

Event Spaces

Vandal’s two-level space includes a bar/ lounge, restaurant, semi-private dining room, and cellar bar/ lounge.

The Library ~ 50 Guests

A semi-private dining room elevated slightly above the ground floor bounded by bronze screens that playfully interpret storefront metal gates. Gold books framed by four built-in book cases painted by Tristan Eaton appear along the feature wall.

The Gallery ~ 300 Guests

Velvet banquettes define the perimeter of the room where four hand-painted oversize brass dome lights illuminate the beautiful atmosphere. Two plaster niches on either end of the dining room have been chiseled by Portuguese artist Vhils to reveal beautiful portraits covering a hidden wall of brick.

The Secret Garden ~ 100 Guests

An intimate dining area inspired by natural elements. A wall of glass garage doors can open the space to the sidewalk on warm evenings, while a row of tall planters filter the light streaming through the glass doors and provide privacy.

The Hush Room

Features a sculptural 17-seat bar/ lounge adjacent one of the three main dining rooms at VANDAL. Across from the bar/lounge, the dining room is watched over by large scale murals by Will Barras and Hush.

The Lounge ~ 250 Guests

A serpentine bar combines traditional bar stool seating along the outside curve and tufted banquette seating tucked inside for small groups. Crystal-covered pendant lights that follow the shape of the bar, projecting a fragmented light. Bold, graphic wall-coverings on the walls and ceiling contribute to the room’s crystallized look.
